Rapid delivery of library materials
What is LINKin?
LINKin is a local partnership comprised of Skokie Public Library, Arlington Heights Memorial Library, the Gail Borden Public Library, and the College of DuPage. If the material you are looking for is not available in the C.O.D. Library, LINKin provides easy access to the collections of the partner libraries.
How long does it take for materials to arrive?
Items requested through LINKin will usually arrive within three or four days. Patrons will be notified by phone or email when the item is ready for pickup.
What can be requested?
C.O.D Library borrowers can use LINKin to request items that are checked out or not owned by the Library. However, new materials, DVDs, and videos CANNOT be borrowed through the LINKin service. Sorry, this service is not available to our reciprocal borrowers from Benedictine University, Elmhurst College, North Central College, or Wheaton College.
How long can I keep LINKin materials
In general LINKin load periods are the same as C.O.D. materials. Books can be kept for three weeks and audio-visual materials for one week.
How does LINKin work?
- Search the C.O.D. Library catalog to see if the item is available for checkout.
- If the item is not available (not owned, missing, or already checked out), click on the
button to pass your search on to the LINKin catalog.
- If a partner library has the item, the LINKin catalog will display a catalog record for the item, the number of libraries that own it, and a Request this item link.
- Click on the Request this item link.
- If the item is available for checkout, the catalog will request the name of the library with which you are affiliated. Select College of DuPage from the drop-down menu and then click the Submit above information button.
- Next, type your name and C.O.D. Library card barcode number in the spaces provided. Click the SUBMIT button.
- If your request is successful, the catalog will display "Your request was successful" and the transaction is complete. The C.O.D. Library will notify you when the item is ready for pickup.
- If the item is not available for borrowing from one of the LINKin partner libraries, the catalog will display an explanation. Some examples follow:
- Sorry, no copies available for requests.
- No copies are available at this time. Please check with your local library.
- You cannot use LINKin to request items that are available at your institution.

How is this different from Interlibrary Loan?
LINKin
- LINKin is a one click patron initiated request for materials.
- Requests are just from our partner LINKin libraries.
- There is no form to fill out.
- Delivery is usually quicker.
- Article requests cannot be done through LINKin at this time.
Interlibrary Loan
- Interlibrary Loan (ILL) requires that the borrower fills out a request form for each item.
- ILL loans are not restricted to materials in the LINKin partner libraries.
- ILL requests can be for books or articles.
- An ILL for book material may take 10 days or more.
